Bertie Bassetts Return Journey

1 minute read time.

Hi Most of you who know me know that Bert has been re-admitted to hospital. For anyone who does not know me I will try and keep this brief.

Last September Bert was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, it was originally thought that this had evolved from Myelodysplasia and his only chance of cure was Bone Marrow Transplant. After many tests it was decided he did not infact have Myelodysplasia but did have AML. 4 cycles of chemotherapy and almost 6 months in hospital we were told he was in remission with no evidence of disease.

2 weeks after being given the goods news he felt really unwell and after several more tests and another Bone Marrow biopsy it was confirmed thet he did in fact have Myelodysplasia and does need a Bone Marrow Transplant. His counts dropped rapidly and within 2 weeks he was neutropenic.

He was admitted on Monday 14th Sept exactly a year to the day for a 5th cycle of Chemo as he has now relapsed and also has AML again. A donor has been found for his transplant. However, at the moment we are unsure as to whether they will go ahead with the transplant as there seems to be a problem with his liver now. we are waiting on results of a scan.

We are in limbo just now he needs this chemo regardless,  the transplant team will meet up with us again in 6 weeks when he gets home and they will make the decision then

Love Teri

Another bad day today with temp spiking a couple of times, he also needed to have an ECG as his pulse rate was really fast there were some changes on this. However another one done this evening was better,

More antibiotics Blood and chemo today. Tomorrow will be his last day of chemo so at least the nausea should stop.
