A little milestone

1 minute read time.

So, two weeks through my six week treatment course today.

I had a few admin hassles when I was transferred from one hospital to another, at my request, in the sense that the receiving hospital was a bit slow in putting things in place, for example physio for my mouth etc. There are still one or two little problems to iron out but my second review today was, I must say, of a nature that inspires much admiration for health care workers, especially in this field. These guys do a really difficult, demanding and important job and they do not become rich for doing it either, to an extent that surely indicates an injustice in our societies.

Today I received very helpful advice and a feeling of support, ranging from oncologist, to dietician to speech therapist. Really good. So a big, big thanks to them.

Whilst the side effects of radio are now kicking in fairly big time, ulcerations and sore mouth etc, this was more than outweighed by my oncologist's remark that the primary tumour had shrunk visibly and significantly.

So, 1/3 of the way through, making progress. All I need is Wales to beat Belgium tonight and it will have been a really, really good day....

Here's wishibg for more milestones. It was certainly good to read about this one after the nightmare of the side effects.

Well done bud, hang on in there. The effects of RT can be pretty devistating, but the area does heal once treatment is over. My cancer was the other end of the spectrum, but effects just as horrendous. I had a marvellous team around me, and all I had to do was squeak and someone was there! Keep focusing on the end result. Keep sparkling :-)

Sorry to hear you are also suffering from side effects.  I wonder if these magical people that don't suffer that the medical people keep telling me about actually exist?  Glad to hear your tumour is shrinking, I am still waiting to hear if mine has.

Hello I have been recently diagnosed with throat cancer and going through chemo I must say apart from the first chemo session when the tablets they put me on sent me hyper I have had no other side effects and I hope it Carrys on that way until I have finished my course I will be having another chemo on the 23 of this month and then a pet scan and hopefully everything will be on the mend.the only way I look at this is keep telling yourself that you will get through it and you have plenty of life left in you,so to every body else out there just be possative and it helps.

Hi Dave, It’s great to hear the treatment is already having a evident positive effect, the mouth sores must be a pest so I guess its lots of soup for now.

Super news about Wales on Friday, nice job… www.bbc.com/.../33017520</span>

Interesting to hear you have moved hospital, hope it’s not too far but in any case its sounds like to team there are good and they are advising you well.

As you say a number of weeks have now passed and to see things improve is pretty wonderful, so rest and don’t ponder too much as the medical teams are clearly managing you well. Cheers jeff
