Slow response

Less than one minute read time.

My mum has been given a month to live last monday and the consultant at Clatterbridge Hospital on the Wirral promised contact by a macmillan nurse asap .

We have heard nothing and I am dismayed at the disconnect not only with the GP Oncology dept and breast unit but also with the referral to macmillan nurses .

This is our first experience and although the reputation locally of the macmillan nurses is less than impressive I have now experienced it for ourselves .

Why are we receiving no support ?

Not good enough I am in despair

So sorry to read about your poor mum and finding you have had no replies as yet, unfortunately not so many members here read the blog posts, they go directly to the groups they have joined to 'chat' with others in similar situations.

Best thing you could do is join the very active 'Supporting Someone With Incurable Cancer Group' just click the link to find it.
When you join create a New Discussion and copy in your above text as an introduction - I'm sure you will soon get some supportive replies with advice and opinions.

If it could also be of help for you as a carer there is this very good Carers Group you could also join.

Do you know if Clatterbridge actually contacted a Macmillan nurse to help with your mum or only said they would ? It's a sign of the times that these vital things sometimes go amiss and you just sit there expecting a call back :(

You should also contact the GP and ask if one has been referred for your mum, you would think it would be on her records if this actually happened. If not the GP can refer one.  I'm hoping all this is an oversight which shouldn't have happened and not a reflection of the sort of service you will be getting from your local health trust :(

Hope this is of some help to get you and your mum the help you are entitled to.

    Take care, G n' J  (breast group)
