Absolutely incredulous!

So, I have a real problem sometimes getting my meds from the pharmacy. I've no idea why this is a problem, because it should be a really simple procedure.

  • They call me and ask what I want.
  • I tell them.
  • They ask for my scripts from the doc.
  • Doc sends them over.
  • They fill them out.
  • They deliver them to me on the pre-asigned day.

Simple right? Apparently not!

A week ago last Monday they called and I requested the specific meds I needed, which isn't everything that's on my repeat prescription. I asked if they could deliver Thursday as I wouldn't be in on Friday, they said they'd try but if not would Monday be ok? I said it would, but it had to be Monday as that was when one of my pills ran out.

The time for deliveries came and went on Monday and nothing. So I called the pharmacy to see what was happening. I was met with an attitude and a half from someone claiming they'd been trying to ring me. Now, my mobile and home phone have a call logger, and both have an answer machine. Neither had a message left on them, and neither had even been rung by the pharmacy number - I checked.

The pharmacy claim that the doctors didn't issue everything I had requested, so they were trying to chase them up and get the lines I needed. However she mentioned a med I hadn't requested, but when I queried it she just sighed and wouldn't go through the medications. I explained that I had run out of one of my meds, so could they please deliver the next day, and I'd see what they had ordered as I wasn't sure it was right. I then contacted the practice manager to explain what had happened, and she assured me that no mistake had been made at their end.

When it came, they had ordered ALL my meds instead of just the ones I had specifically requested. So I called to ask if I could return what I didn't need, and to check they had the lines for the things that were missing. They said it wasn't a problem to give the driver what I didn't need, and that they had 'just' received the other lines for what I needed and so it would be sent out on the Wed.

So Wed came, the delivery came, I gave him back a bag of things I didn't need and hadn't asked for. Done and dusted I thought. WRONG!

I just received a phone call from the same, attitude filled woman, demanding to know why I had returned my medication. I again explained that I hadn't requested it, and didn't need it at this time as I had enough here already. She clearly didn't believe me, as she asked me 3 or 4 times in succession if I hadn't requested them in the original phone call. And every time, I reiterated that I had not requested those items. Then she demanded to know why I hadn't told her this when she'd called me, to which I pointed out she hadn't told me what meds they were specifically, and had clearly just wanted me off the phone - which was why I had said I would check and see what I would get, and then had asked in the next call if I could return them - to which she had said yes! She then gets even more attitude on her, and asks if they should cancel my prescriptions if I don't need them, so I once more explain that I just didn't need them THIS TIME. So she says they will just keep the meds I've returned in the back, and give them back to me next time I request those sorts of med. And that was that.

Now, I don't do well with confrontation when it takes me unexpectedly. In fact, at the moment I don't do well with anything unexpected. So my brain didn't click in and work fast enough to actually counter her points either this time or in the other calls through the week. So I'm sitting here feeling a bit impotent, because there's an anger in me that just won't come out, and I can't believe that they think this is an acceptable way in which to talk to someone! They also admitted, that I'm not the only person whose meds get messed up - though they blame the Drs entirely - and I just worry for those older people who are easily confused by which meds they should and shouldn't have, not getting everything they are supposed to! Because if they're messing up mine so much, what are they doing to everyone elses?!

Now I've let it out a bit on here, I think I'm going to copy and paste sections of this into an email, and send it to their head office. Because the way in which she spoke to me, and accused me, is totally unacceptable! And this won't be the first email they've had off me!!
