Kezzerbird..dying but expected to work

1 minute read time.

This goverment are clamping down on people who are defruding the system, I am all for these fakers being caught and punished BUT cancer patients who are dying from their desease are being vitimised. I had to go to a work focused interview, if I didn't I could have lost my Incapasity benifit, they have deemed me fit for work even though I am receiving pallitive care, in other words my medical team are trying to buy me more time. Next blow came that DLA are cutting my money by £200 a month leaving me with £110 a week to pay for everything, can someone please tell me how I am supposed to live on that, I have lost my mobility because I can walk 300 to 400 yards only on my best days which are getting fewer, I barely go out anymore because this treatment is effecting me greatly. I don't know if the next treatment I receive will improve my quality of life but I have very little quality now and it is not because I am fighting this cancer with everything I have. I now have to appeal against DLA and I am running out of strength. I can't even die in peace. I have cancer which is killing me and I am ok to work and live on sod all. I can fight the cancer but fighting the system. My mac nurse and medical team and the mac/CAB are on the case. This site should start a campaign because this is going on with others in my position and the ones who don't need help are getting away with it because they know the system. I can't believe this is going on.....love Carol xx

Carol, I have just read your note. I am absolutely disgusted that this should be happening to you. I am a nurse I work in mental health but spend half on my time completing DLA forms for the patients I work with. You Mac nurse needs to write a letter supporting your claim-appeal. She can also phone them whilst you are present. If you give permission she can then talk to them on your behalf. Ask her if she can write a letter as matter of urgency and fax it off to the departments

There is a form that your G.P can also fill in, I think there is another one other than the special rules form. My mum passed away with cancer last week. She was diagnosed last Jan but at the time, her prognosis was good. Despite this I completed forms DLA on her behalf and she got high rate. The G.P also supported her claim and the hospital Mac nurse. Her prognosis did however change.

I would strongly recommend that you get help with completing your forms. When you fill in each section of the form it needs to be completed as if you are commenting on your worst days.

In respect of back to work interviews. One you should not be going but if they are demanding, you do take your Mac nurse with you. I attend my patients back to work interviews so I can stress my point. Again, it may be helpful if she writes a supporting letter to incapacity detailing your health and needs .

There are probably areas that you may also be missing out on. There is a grant site on the internet that gives guidance as to what you may be entitled to. Sorry forgot what it is called A couple of hundred pounds is better in your pocket. Again, I do not know if you have a carer involved but they are often entitled to grants for a break or holiday. There is also the Mac fund for you.

If you are struggling with buying furnishing or cant afford to replace items there is the Community Care .

Grant. If eligable  you dont have to pay the funds back. I would reccomend that you Mac nurse again puts in a letter of support if you go down this road.   I have got items like ovens and beds. For some peolpe who are moving they have got around £800.

Please, please get support with all of this. The minute they recieve letters from health care profs they back down.

    Good luck, Tracey

What can anyone say to you that would explain and make sense of all this! I only hear silence...

Thinking of you and it sounds like you have people on your case willing to be counted... this is something to be comforted by!

My thoughts are out there with people who have less home / medical support available and maybe not enough energy to fight their case... this is where sharing any tips and support on here helps everyone...

    Campaign... absolutely right!

    Hi Carol

My Goodness these people know no boundries do they. I am very sorry for what you are going through. All I can say is get everyone involved as much as possible from Dr's up to your local MP, this is stupid. If there is anything I can do write letters etc please let me know.

Makes me wonder when there gonna cut my mum's she's been on highest DLA for about three yrs now, just wondering how long they give to a terminally ill patient before they get their theiving hands on their money!

Again if there's anything please dont hesitate.

    Hugs
