The 25th World's Biggest Coffee Morning

3 minute read time.

This year marked the 25th World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. That’s 25 years of guzzling coffee, munching cake and raising a whole lot of money for Macmillan.

As always, the Cancer Information Development team was out in force doing our bit - by that we mean eating more than our fair share of the sweet stuff! We were in various locations to support coffee mornings and say a big thank you to everyone involved.

Here’s a snapshot of what we got up to.

Our Quality and Improvement Officer Abi went along to DLKW Lowe’s coffee morning, hosted by her sister.

Marilisa, Senior Editor, visited Chingford Books’ event. They had a very colourful spread, complete with balloons!

A few of the team, including editors Matthew, Aoife and Elissia, popped into their local Marks and Spencer stores. We were greeted by smiles, enthusiasm and lots of green!

Aoife and Elissia, along with Senior Editor Tess, also came across this delicious spread outside The Paint House in Clapham.

Editorial Assistant Steven joined the Core Assets Group Foster Care Association in Sutton at their event to mark the 25th anniversary. It was brilliant to see such a great turn out of staff.

Teri, Information Development nurse, went to the coffee morning organised by Year 6 pupils at her children's school. You can tell by the empty plates and tubs that it was a success!

We also spotted all of these fantastic cakey creations on our travels.

Coffee morning cakes and treats

We all thoroughly enjoyed our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning experiences and hope you did too. So far this year the event has raised a massive £6,800,597.57. The money will help us to be there for more people affected by cancer.

Want to know what your money can do? Here are just a few examples:

  • £27 could pay for a Macmillan nurse to spend an hour with someone who’s just been told they have cancer.
  • £181 can pay for a Macmillan social worker to spend a day helping people with the tricky, everyday problems that come with facing cancer.
  • £278 keeps a Macmillan support centre stocked for a month with all the things it needs to support families standing by a loved one affected by cancer.
  • £365 could pay to hire a room for a year so a self-help and support group can be there for each other whenever they need.

So, a huge thank you to everyone who organised, hosted or attended a Macmillan Coffee Morning. We’d love to see your photos or hear your stories – please share them below!
