Late & Rushed or was it?

1 minute read time.

Well is it just our clinic/centre or all of them.... We get there early as you’re asked to do only to find they are running 1hr and 10mins late.

This is only the 2nd time we have been there and its the 2nd time we have found it running late I’m wondering now if this is the norm. In the end we were seen 1hr and 45mins after the time of our appointment.

Once inside it all seemed really rushed although we were given the information we needed it felt like we had to rush things too. She did mention that the group meeting was taking place in 5mins where my case along with others would be discussed (this made us feel we were taking up her time)..

My full biopsy results were not back as that was only done Monday but the lab had looked at it and agreed something wasn’t right with it so the consultant is still going with Hodgkins although we may hear from them today if they find it’s not. The CT scan results were not there either but were due that afternoon, the PET scan results turned up while we were there after St Thomas’ faxed them over (Thanks ST T’s). Those results showed no other issues other than that on the left side of my neck. Well that’s a positive and with that she was no longer bothered about the CT results.

This meant that I would probably only need two rounds of Chemo and then Radio therapy. The side effects of ABVD were explained and we asked a few questions. I signed the consent form for this and that is being processed. That will be organised in the next week I think she said.....

I know that sounds like loads but when you imagine this was all done in about 15mins max that was too much too quickly.....

Or is this the norm too?

Anyway just waiting for my dates and I hope that will help me feel a bit more settled.

    Hi there,

Yes we found that is normal, generally an hour's wait.  Frustrating at first when you're waiting for diagnosis and prognosis etc. but as you get deeper into your journey you'll see why.  They make 'group' appointments and they also care for and see patients that are in hospital/having trouble, they will always fit people in.  When dad was in hospital or needing to see the oncologist quickly, they always fitted him in - albeit with a wait - so that's why nothing runs on time.

I'm sorry you found that it was rushed, we didn't find that.  It is so important and you should feel like the most important patient to them, if only for a few minutes.

Good news on the PET scan, fingers crossed it's something they can quickly erradicate.  Once you get your dates you will feel like things are moving forward.

    Good luck x
