Kezzerbird..dying but expected to work

1 minute read time.

This goverment are clamping down on people who are defruding the system, I am all for these fakers being caught and punished BUT cancer patients who are dying from their desease are being vitimised. I had to go to a work focused interview, if I didn't I could have lost my Incapasity benifit, they have deemed me fit for work even though I am receiving pallitive care, in other words my medical team are trying to buy me more time. Next blow came that DLA are cutting my money by £200 a month leaving me with £110 a week to pay for everything, can someone please tell me how I am supposed to live on that, I have lost my mobility because I can walk 300 to 400 yards only on my best days which are getting fewer, I barely go out anymore because this treatment is effecting me greatly. I don't know if the next treatment I receive will improve my quality of life but I have very little quality now and it is not because I am fighting this cancer with everything I have. I now have to appeal against DLA and I am running out of strength. I can't even die in peace. I have cancer which is killing me and I am ok to work and live on sod all. I can fight the cancer but fighting the system. My mac nurse and medical team and the mac/CAB are on the case. This site should start a campaign because this is going on with others in my position and the ones who don't need help are getting away with it because they know the system. I can't believe this is going on.....love Carol xx

  • Hi Carol,

I am extemly angry about these cuts to patients like yourself, the tests they empoly are focused on very simple facts and there seems to be no appreciation of the illness, for instance if you can hold a pen and walk ten paces then you are fit enough to work, is absolutly outragous in anyones mind, also the people doing the tests dont seem to have any compassion or appreciation of what it is like to be affected by cancer and the treatments side effects, we all aught to get onto our MPs and bug the hell out of them.

Personally i am able to work and will carry on and do so all the time that i can, but when the time comes no doubt i will have to stop, i hope that is a long way off, but some days its very hard to drum up the enthusiasm to even go to work, when the future is so uncertain, non of which is ever taken into account.

On another note i wish you well Carol and hope that it improves for you.

    All the best.

    Pauli.............

Carol I'm so upset to hear this, and I'm glad that your Macmillan team and CAB are on the case. If you need any further advice, then call our support line on 0808 808 0000 where a benefits adviser will be able to tell you if there's anything else you can do.

I see you said that we should start a campaign, well we have one! Our Welfare Reform campaign is in its second round and being debated by MP's at the moment.

We've been lobbying to make sure that the issues you describe above, such as being forced to complete a work-based interview a year after treatment and benefits cuts are at the forefront of debates in the Houses of Parliament.

We've already finished round one, where you could write to your MP, but now you can write to your local paper and keep an eye on this page for news of what you can do next.

    www.macmillan.org.uk/.../WelfareReformLetter.aspx

We can make a difference, please tell everyone you know to get involved. I'll be updating here on the Community when we have more actions you can take.

Carol, I really hope this gets sorted for you, thinking of you.

Keep strong and don't let the b******* grind you down.

    Love and a hug.

Dear Carol, you are so right that they should concentrate on the real fraudsters, not on those who would love to work if they were able to, but aren't physically strong enough. I hope they get this sorted for you soon.

I think of you often, so sending lots of love and positive vibes your way. Val X
