Debs Daily Deliberations 128

3 minute read time.
Morning All, The weekend was great, the weather was wonderful and we made the most of it. Didn't go to Hatfield Forest but we did go to the River Stort, Tony and Lara fished (I forgot my reading book) the dogs sat in the shade and barked at joggers, cyclists and other dogs - am assuming it was a good day too in their dog world ;) I did take my camera and a thermos cup of tea. We sat for around 2.5 hours but it was past midday the heat was searing and the fish were not biting. Decided to get Lara's school shoes on the way home but first we sat outside with the dogs, at Costa Coffee and had a frappacinno type drink (posh milkshakes if ya ask me!) and a muffin, Lara had raspberry & white chocolate, Tony had blueberry and I had an orange and lemon. Got the shoes and back home, took in all the laundry as it was dry.....no washing on the line - ohhhhhhh not seen that for a while!!!! As the weather was glorious, we decided to have an impromptu BBQ, Lara went out round her "boyfriends" to play - they are only 11 yo lol, Sean was "swimming" in a friends paddling pool and my twilight son Jack was...........in his bedroom where else!!!!! We went passed Tesco's to Go Outdoors??? Tony wanted to look at.......Tents, I had NEVER wanted to camp in my adult life, prefer things like electricity and ensuite bathrooms on holiday....but as ever, money is tight and we desperately want to get away. Found a fabulous 4 bedroomed tent (huge thing) for £199 but needed to speak to the kids first. Called in at Tesco's got some coals and food and home to finish the garden. The last section of my "grasslands" border needed to be finished and two more grasses planted. Bless him Tony worked really hard in the heat and I held the bags open for all the excess soil to be shovelled into, oh and I made the drinks! Finished the border around 5pm and Tony put the coals on, we had chicken wings, ribs, sausages, kebabs - chicken, lamb & prawn....I made some potato salad and we had some seafood cocktail too. All the kids came home in time for tea and we sat outside in the garden eating again - all weekend in fact! We talked about the tent, they all said it sounded fab and then Sean shot off out again - fishing with his friend and Dad. Lara played with the dogs in the garden while Tony and I watered the new plants and Jack...........yes he was back upstairs in his room LOL While Tony was taking a well deserved soak in the bath, I watched Rivers with Grif Rhys Jones..it was all about the River Lea that runs through Hertford and Essex to London.....being a local I watched with interest, especially the bit about the dummy airport during the war to hide North Weald (lived right on the edge of that airfield before we had kids). Anyway, Tony out of the bath we sat in the garden and enjoyed a glass of Pinot Noir...........this was probably my 4th unit of alcohol since christmas, so I am assuming I am keeping within the realms of "the occassional glass" that I was told I could have after being put on anti-seizure meds. It rounded off a great weekend and so to bed sleepy head............good grief it was hot last night, our window was open but no air coming through, I got up and opened Lara's bedroom door and her window (her room is at the back, we are at the front) and just cracked open the boys door to try and get some air flowing around......didn't seem to do much. Drifted back to sleep.........next I woke with Ollie positively panting his heart out next to me, he was so hot bless him. Took him downstairs and let him in the garden, did a huge wee and came in for a drink. Now I am thinking........what would the dogs be like in a hot tent at night...........or me come to think of it LOL Arghhhhh I dunno now......... Thought for yesterday: The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. A.K. Best

Sounds wonderful, Debs. And camping in such a big tent isn't really camping ....and the British weather isn't always so hot ....

It's a pity that in this rich, selfish, war-mongering country of ours that a few quid can't be found to enable families such as yours to have an annual break. In my part of the country [Yorkshire] we even hear of criminals getting free holidays. My blood pressure rises to even think of it, but its true. I think that proud, hard working people such as yourselves who have found themselves 'up against it' through no fault of your own should recieve help from our 'caring government'.

Just a fraction of the expenses that lot fiddles would provide holidays for cancer patients and their carers. I could go on for ever, but will shut up now, 'cos I fear a stroke coming on.

Big Hugs and hope you find a solution, Bill xxx

I know what you mean Bill.....but I am not complaining really, it would just be nice to pack in some "memory moments" for the kids.  Tony is working so hard and I am about to "retire" from my little part-time job - a job I adored....but lucky old me, you don't get any help if you work less than 16 hours, I worked 15 typical LOL

Still things could be a lot worse!!!!!!

    Keep smiling
