Mastectomy - report came back as less than 10% cancer remaining. What does this mean?

I had a mastectomy & lymph node biopsy on 12th June.  The lymph nodes are clear but the report from the mastectomy came back yesterday as "got over 90%" of the cancer.  So I did not achieve PCR and am now resuming Pembrolizumab to work on the remaining <10%.

I'm wondering if anyone can explain this report result to me?  How they came to that conclusion?  What does that figure actually mean in my body?

I know I should have asked my oncologist for more details in the meeting but we were both too focused on the next treatment steps to deal with it and I'm not seeing her for a few weeks.

Thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I don't know what your result means but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

As it's several weeks before your next meeting with your oncologist, why don't you give your BCNS a call tomorrow and she should be able to explain what the report means.

    Wishing you all the best
