Hi, i am new to this forum,
I just wondered if anyone has been diagnosed with MAC here?
I had a check up with a skin clinic in September (didn't go to see GP as waiting lists seem so long) for a full body check. I had a few lesions that I wanted to check as lost my mum to Melanoma in 2009.
One of the marks on my face was indicated as an urgent referral as could be a BCC, and they asked if i wanted to be passed to my GP or go for a private consultation. I opted for a private consultation again because of COVID and waiting times. I saw the surgeon who took a look as said that he hadn't seen anything like it and said it could be a BCC but not sure and so he said he would take a biopsy and also went through what would happen should it come back positive.
After a worrying wait I was called in to see him for the results of the biopsy, which were a MAC, which is a rare, infiltrative, tumor of the sweat glands. The mark was between my nose and lip. He explained that he would do a wide and deep excision to remove the tumor under a local anesthetic and then after receiving results from the lab would either have to take more out or then go for reconstruction using a skin flap from my cheek under a general anesthetic.
I went on 21st December for the first procedure, which after the numbing injections was painless, and am now awaiting the results from the lab.
My top lip, and side of nose and face are numb from the nerves being severed but apart from that I feel okay. Just keeping all my fingers crossed for good results from the lab.
Hi Tracymrsg and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) and I known what a worrying time waiting for the biopsy results can be.
MAC is fairly rare but there have been others in this group with it and I'm going to tag , and into this reply to you in the hope that they're still members here and can tell you how they got on. Unfortunately none of them completed their profile so I can't suggest that you look there. However, if you click here the link will take you to a list of previous posts which mention MAC.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Thank you for your response. Really hoping he has got all the tumor out and have an appointment on Monday with surgeon so hopefully will have results then. Have you had your sugery as yet?
Like you say at least i'm not missing out on anything at the moment!
Hi - fingers crossed for Monday, hope your meeting with the surgeon goes well. Let us know how you get on.
I had a punch biopsy on my BCC of 5mm, which came back as infiltrative without clear margins so I'm having 10 sessions of radiotherapy over two weeks. Haven't got my appointment yet but they've sent me one for a Covid test in mid January, so I hope that means my appointment is soon after. Just want to get it done soon x

Sorry I haven't replied sooner.
Following the removal of my tumor on the 21st December, I went to see the surgeon on the 4th January where he gave me the good news that he had got all the tumour with clear margins. I was so happy, what a great start to the new year!
My face reconstruction was booked for the 11th January under a general anesthetic, where he pulled the skin from my cheek area towards my nose and mouth to cover the hole left. Surgery went well and I returned on the 11th January to have the stitches removed. I have a scar from the top of my nose down to the bottom of my lip but all in the crease lines of my face. It is healing so well and I am really pleased. I'm sure in the future the scar will hardly be noticable.
This process has been very scary but once I received the news that the cancer was gone the relief was amazing and I felt I could cope with anything after that.
I have sent the surgeon updated pics and he is really happy with the healing process and so my next check up is in May.
Hi Marvellos - glad to read everything went well with surgery. I have just been diagnosed with a microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) just above my eyebrow. Having googled it I am now petrified of the operation as read it spreads under the surface of skin up to 4 or 6 times the size. I had this scar like mark on my face for about 8 years so no idea what damage it might have done. I’ll look to have surgery in January - MOHS is being discussed with flap reconstructive surgery.
how long had you had your MAC and had it spread far below skin. I’m in total panic about this. 49 years old and seriously stressed about being totally disfigured especially since it’s not far from eye. It’s just above eyebrow so guess there’s a strong chance of loosing my eyebrow too
