Has anyone tried to submit a claim on Vitality here? I was recently diagnosed with melanoma stage 3B.
Hi innah and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.
How are you? Can I ask if this claim is for critical illness cover and do you have something in particular you need to know before claiming? Vitality Insurance isn't a company I've personally had any dealings with.
Hi Latchbrook, Im good, still a bit shock of my recent diagnosis of 3b melanoma, at 24, it isnt something I am expecting. How about you how are you? Yes, I am covered with vitality for critical life cover. And I wonder if anyone had a claim with this in the group
I'm not surprised that you're still in shock innah. It's not a diagnosis you expect at your age,
I don't recall anyone in the group mentioning Vitality Insurance before, but that's not to say no one on here has claimed just not mentioned it. If it's critical illness cover you have then it should say in your policy documents which cancers they cover and will pay out on. If you can't find the information just give them a call and they'll tell you. I would imagine you'd need to speak to them on the phone anyway to start the claim.
I'm well thank you. Went for another 3 monthly check-up last Wednesday and everything is still okay. Are you having further treatment for your melanoma?

ive just found out I’m in a similar position. Caught it a little sooner but wondering what the pros and cons of claiming through vitality might be.
any pearls of wisdom or advice?
I have currently put a claim in with vitality life. I am stage 1B. They told me that up to stage 1 you can get up to 25% of your critical illness money. So basically you get a percentage so that not all of the money is given in a lump sum. The remaining money will stay there incase it is needed in the future.
They have received my medical documents and are apparently reviewing my claim. Fingers crossed I will get something.
Thanks for the heads up.
I’m stage 2a. Great job catching so soon. I’m a bit confused, never been on a sunbed, must be the latent ginger gene...
I / We are a bit nervous about the impact on premiums, holiday insurance and not being able to move for the next 5-years.
I am a stage 2A and recently claimed my critical illness cover with Scottish widows.
They require confirmation from the hospital. I gave them a copy of my histology report and result confirmed by nurse specialist. After that it was processed quite quickly, within 2 weeks I had a payout. I received 25% of my total cover so it was a nice amount.
Had my WLE and SLNB a week ago and if there are positive lymph nodes I will be stage 3 and Scottish widows informed me I will be able to claim more possibly the total. Fingers crossed it’s not spread though!!!
Thanks for the heads up D.
hope you caught it all. Best of luck and have a great Christmas and new year.
I was diagnosed with a Stage 1 melanoma in December and am currently awaiting a WLE. I also have comprehensive serious illness cover with Vitality an have submitted a claim. The forms were sent to my consultant last Friday, but I haven't heard anything back yet. I'l keep you posted as and when.
It can take a bit of time for the consultant to get round to sorting insurance claims. It maybe be worth chasing next week by contacting his/her secretary or ask nurse specialist to chase it up.
hope it all goes well for you.
I chased up the hospital on Friday and although I posted out the paperwork two weeks ago, they have no record of receiving it. I've asked Vitality for another set and will deliver by hand this time.
Oh no that’s frustrating! I’d be tempted to wait while they complete it!
My insurance company didn’t send forms they were happy with evidence of histology report and an email to back it up from nurse specialist. I think that’s unusual though and usually takes a bit of time from start to finish.
I’ve just heard from the SCN secretary and my forms have arrived with them. My notes have been requested so hopefully should be completed fairly soon. I feel really guilty about adding to work loads, but hopefully it is just a matter of requesting the notes, signing them and sending them off.
Sounds likes there’s been a gear change. I think we have a race on. My forms were submitted around the same time.
Waiting for date for WLE and SLNB, end of Feb I think. Talking to Vitality Nurse on Friday too.
don't really know what to expect yet.
I’m still waiting for mine! Submitted in November! They apparently were chasing up public health records for a password to access my medical records. They waited two weeks and nobody had replied. I rang the public records office and was given the password via email in 5 minutes. I provided vitality with this last Friday and I still haven’t heard anything! I honestly think they’re doing everything in their power to hold off paying out!
Sorry to hear that Rower1. Was it easy to get the password (just in case we encounter the same)?
Fingers crossed you hear back soon,
Yes it was easy. I rang public health records. They asked me to email my details to the guys email address and he replied straight away with it.
Thanks Jo, that could be really helpful.
I hope you are well. I was just wondering whether Vitality let you know when they received the documents? I haven't heard anything back from them but don't want to chase the hospital unnecessarily if possible.
In the grand scheme of things I know that this is not important, but it would be another thing to tick off!
Thanks in advance,
They emailed me once they had the documents and said they would be in touch. I then chased them up when they were waiting for the password for my medical documents. I spoke to them Monday and I have been approved so I have to wait for them to calculate an amount.
