  • BEACOPP or ABVD chemotherapy?
  • Are there other treatment options?
  • Hi and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our blood cancer groups.

I don’t have Hodgkin’s but was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of skin Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 4a and although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I have experienced most types of treatments used but not necessarily the exact same drug mix.

ABVD is often seen as the gold standard treatment with BEACOPP as a backup where the condition is more stubborn. There are other treatment routes if your condition stays stubborn including Stem Cell Transplant.

I am sure that some of the HL group members will be along to help out but I am always around to talk and help as best as I can ((hugs))

  • Thanks Mike,

I've opted for the hardcore protocol. Starting tomorrow hopefully. Thank you so much for your input. Are you cured now?

    Lots of love

  • Hi Lulu, well done on making the choice.

Ny type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is incurable but my years of treatments eventually put me into full metabolic remission back in Sep 2016 for the first time in over 17 years - rather amazing in that when I was first diagnosed back in 1999 I was told I would never have any prolonged periods of remission so I am living the dream Heart eyes

    Always around to chat ((hugs))

    Hi Lulu

I'm currently going through Escalated  BEACOPP, after 2 cycles of ABVD. ABVD wasn't working as well as my oncologist was hoping for. I'm stage 4 HL as it needed a hard kick to fight this!!

I have my 3rd (and hopefully last) cycle of BEACOPP next Monday. Then I get Mt PET scan to see if this little bugger has been beaten! Fingers Fingers crossed

It's been pretty rough, and I suffer from dreadful nausea and vomiting, but I was ready for it. You may be perfectly OK though. Not all will suffer this, but I do recommend you ask for I.V. ondansetron (or similar) just before they start the chemo.

Keep positive, and you'll be through this before you know it. Any questions about this at all, please let me know.

    Best wishes

    Clive
