This is a daft question and probably can't be answered but here goes.
Does anybody here have a ball park figure for a TORS procedure to remove a tongue base tumour privately?
No idea, sorry Beesuit. Mine was done as part of the Pathos trial.
Hi Beesuit. Not much H&N cancer surgery done privately as far as I know. TORS equipment quite specialist so unlikely to be in a private hospital. If your own hospital does not offer it and you feel you would benefit, could you be refered to another unit for TORS - but on the NHS?
Guys and the Marsden and a few others have private units. My PET/ CT scan at 16weeks showed an 8mm spot hot enough to have me in for a biopsy; being done next week. Damn well not having a mandibulotomy spending a crippling year recovering with the spectre of recurrence hanging over me. With a bit of luck I might just have to pay for initial consult and maybe slide over into NHS. With more luck I won’t need it at all.
Apologies for my ignorance Beesuit! Different down here in the rural Southwest! However, I think its pretty common to have hot spots at the primary site on the 12/16 week scan. I know I did - my tonsil region lit up like a firework on 12 weeks scan, but my team were really confident it was scarring from the chemoradiotherapy and sure enough 3 months later there was nothing to see on new PET. However, if they’re concerned you have to go with it. Fingers crossed big time for the biopsy on Tuesday. And here’s Hoping you don’t need any more treatment.
Hi Beesuit, I’m sorry to read your posts and I sincerely hope that you are ok? I had my treatment in Charring Cross hospital Hammersmith. The name of my surgeon is Mr Awad. I was thinking he might be a lead for you to get some advice. I had my PET scan under the NHS at the Royal Brompton in Wimpole Street W1 which is mainly a private diagnostic services. I think the PET scan is around £1000 as I remember. Private surgery thereafter would have most probably been done at St Mary’s Lindo Wing
Every bone in my body is willing that this isn’t what you will need to go through now
Hello Beesuit , I do believe that they do this at a Spires Hospital in Maidstone . My consultant Mr Laurence Newman works there as a private consultant ,as well as the N.HS . I strongly recommend him and will not mess you about , He is the top Head and Neck consultant at The Queen Victoria Hospital and Medway Maritime Gillingham . If you type his name on google it will come up . All the best .
Its sometimes not easy but its worth it ! Click here to find out more
Thank you Chris
if the worst comes to it I’ll ask for a referral to Marsden. If they won’t see me on NHS I’ll get a private initial consult to assess possibilities. Off to Hospital today.
stmarys might have tors, their website mentions tors

Great news. So pleased to hear that. Many thanks for updating us.
I don’t know what I’d have done without this community. You all deserve a medal. I hope I can contribute in a useful way in the future.
