Xylimelts and sore gums

Hi everyone

I’m using xylimelts at night but am finding that my gums are getting sore from where I’m sticking them. I’m trying to stick them mainly on a tooth but just wondered if anyone had any tips?

  • They’ll give me patches if I’m needing to use a lot.

I didn’t have patches but I did have long lasting morphine when I started waking up in the night to top the oramorph up. It was a real game changer.

I’ve had a couple of doses today and it is making me feel a little bit nauseous

I was plagued with evening nausea and put it down to the morphine. I just learned to live with it.
It’s important to reduce slowly when you don’t need it any more especially if you are given fentanyl or buprenorphine patches.

  • The mask for me is the easy bit as I got used to it, the team put my playlist on and it’s literally 1.5 songs and that’s it. I have the usual lovely list of side effects - taste is shot to pieces so water tastes like soapy salt and almost everything apart from ice cream and custard tastes horrible. But I’m still managing to eat nearly enough but now topping up with a couple of fortisips per day. My throat is painful and I’m really glad I’ve now been prescribed oramorph but I’ve managed to week 5 with paracetamol and ibuprofen and it’s mostly been ok. Dani suggested rinsing my mouth with soluable aspirin about 30 minutes before eating and that’s definitely helping. Ulcers not to bad as my hospital has a light box thing (lollipop the team call it) which is amazing and clears them up within a day or two. I’ve got a dry mouth and horrible taste in my mouth which I’m basically putting up with as there doesn’t seem to be much I can do to improve it! Sleep is reasonably ok, I have a humidifier at night which may be helping.

  • Did you not have a feeding tube

u only been zapped at one side

  • What’s the lollipop thing called when you buy it

  • It’s called Photobiomodulation. Ask your team if they offer it.
    It’s not something you buy
