  1. Just dropping wee note here to let you know how things are going. This is week 6 post treatment for my husband who has hpv positive tumour at base of his tongue. He is doing well and managing really well with eating and drinking. Pain is minimal and tiredness much improved. He had 30 fractions of radiotherapy and 2 rounds of cisplatin. He has had hearingbloss on his right side and we wonder if anyone else has had this problem. He does have a dry mouth which he has been coping with but last few days he has developed a troublesome dry cough. He does use his nebuliser but wonder if this cough is something others have experienced. Obviously we are still in early stages of recovery but wanted people to know there is light at end of tunnel. We are still in limbo waiting  gor ct scan to see how effective treatment has been and still probably overthinking every niggle and putting 2 and 2 together and making 5. Would just like we bit reassurance from fellow forum users that sll this is normal. Thanks agsin for ongoing support.
  • So glad you too are making a good recovery. My husband has peg tube and does use fortisip to supplement his calorie intake. He doesn't have any appetite really and his taste still not great but he does force himself to eat as he is keen to stop relying on peg tube. He has cold like symptoms and a cough which is only real problem at minute . As I said in previous post he is a bit concerned about cough but hopefully all part of the healing process.  It is good knowing others out there are in same situation.  Wishing you a speedy recovery and good news when scan time comes x

  • That all sounds par for the course, he's doing well. I had a bit of hearing loss post-treatment but it got better. Wishing you both well

    Hi.
I too had a cancer at the base of my tongue. I too have high end hearing loss on the side which received the majority of the radiation. I wish I had done something about it while I was under review. Now I am waiting 30 weeks to see an nhs audiologist. I had a private hearing test and a months trial of a hearing aid. It made a huge difference but at £4K I couldn’t justify the cost, hence the waiting.
Cisplatin often causes hearing disturbance which is equally often temporary but if he has loss in one ear, particularly if it’s on the treatment side, I’d do something about it now as it may well be the RT and permanent.
