Hi,
After posting last week about no scan date got phone call on Friday to go to ENT this Tuesday coming at 3pm.Feeling so frightened as I was misdiagnosed in the beginning and now T4N1M0.Have been told cancer is big so feel i have little hope of treatment working although oncologist said80-85% and ENT said 70%.Wish i has someone here to help me cope but on my own .Is there anyone on here with a T4 that had good results ? I feel like a coward unable to face what may come.
Turi
Can the people that read the scans tell the difference between real/false hotspots ?
Only up to a point.
Avid scans have a scale of heat called SUV and if this SUV is high then malignancy is a possibility. The only way to tell is by biopsy but some trusts rescan a few months later
Inflammation gets in the way.

Yes they certainly can as I had a hot spot caused by an infection in a scan back in 2021 and they reassured me as to what they were seeing. Rest assured if they are uncertain then they will investigate further.
HibTuri just keep busy tomorrow Tuesday will look after itself. The consultant will have discussed the scan in a mdt meeting. Just remember you’ve come this far. Night night

Hi Turi, I too had a T4 tumour and some lymph node spread. I had a GP exam and dental infection treated in the March and April 2021 which both failed to detect my cancer. I was referred by another GP in May by which time I could see the tumour.
I was then whisked through the system with scans, biopsies, RIG tube and mask fitting followed by 6 weeks of radio and chemo. CT and PET scans in December showed that I was clear.
You are definitely not a coward as you are justified in being scared. We all are, and to some extent that worry will never fully cease. However, as you can see on this forum, many of us are successfully treated and living normal lives. It will be tough but trust in your MDT and the advice and support on this forum.
wishing you all the best with your treatment.

Hi Turi,
“Did you your throat take a long time to heal as the tumour was bigger ?”
I think that we all vary in our response to treatment and I did cope OK with the pain and managed with paracetamol and occasional co-codamol. In respect to recovery, I don’t think that it took any longer for me to recover.
I hope that the PET scan went OK.
