Hello,
I have recently been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the parotid gland. I wanted to share my story and ask some questions on this forum.
I first noticed a small lump in front of my ear around mid-May and went to see my GP soon after. They referred me to an ENT specialist and I had several tests, including biopsies, an MRI, and a PET scan. The results confirmed that I have adenocarcinoma of the parotid, although no one has officially told me that yet. I found out by checking my NHS app.
I am scheduled to see another ENT doctor in Sheffield this week and hopefully get more information about my treatment options and prognosis.
In the meantime, I have some questions that I hope someone here can answer:
Thank you for reading and for any advice you can offer. I appreciate your support and understanding.

Hi Adzila
im sorry to hear your news but welcome to club. You’ll be treated well here.
I can answer question 2 which is yes this should be covered by your critical illness cover although I’ve not seen your specific policy details so check these. Most cancers are covered as standard as long as you haven’t had it before. You’ll also need that dreaded confirmation letter from your consultant to confirm the type of cancer you have. Also just check on your policy whether you have stated you have a history of cancer in the family this came up later for me when making a claim. I was successful which should give you hope.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
