Hell
My mum finished radiotherapy in April this year for throat cancer she is still very poorly. Mucus is still terrible with a burning throat. It's almost eight weeks since she finished her treatment but she still can't eat or drink anything and has everything by tube in tummy. She is eighty. Did anyone else take so long to recover?
Hi flower girl.
Sorry to hear your mum is still poorly
I guess at 80 she has age against a speedy recovery but eight weeks is still fairly early
Do you have a plan in place to try to help her to swallow at least some Fortisips or Ensures? Can she be seen by her hospital support staff, ie speech and language and dietician?

Eating plan. Small sips of yoghurt and custard off a spoon. Scrambled egg with Philadelphia cheese mixed in to make it soft. Chicken broth. Ice cream. Poached eggs. These are the sorts of foods to try

Impossible to swallow at all wouldn't be safe at the moment due to the risk of aspiration pneumonia. She can't swallow. Head and neck doing telephone consultation they will see her soon though. She can't swallow saliva definitely not food. As you say it's early days. Problem being not everyone fits the mould. She can't even swallow water. Her throat burns and is obviously taking time to heal. Like you say age will probably slow the healing process.
Make sure you get her swallow function evaluated. Fingers crossed something can be done.
