Hi everyone and hello. I have a small lump just below my jaw, where it attaches to the skull. It’s not painful, but the back of my neck is constantly sore. I also have a mild sore throat that I can’t shift. I have spoken to my GP’s secretary who informs me the next available appointment is 2 weeks away. From your experience, am I ok to wait. Thanks

  • So I have an update. Today I have been diagnosed with cancer in my neck lymph node and the back of my tongue. I don’t know how I feel. It’s all very surreal. Later this week I’m having another biopsy, then another ct scan. My life has been rocked.

  • Hello FarmerNick, I can feel for you, I remember the day we got my husbands diagnosis, nearly ten mths ago,he took it a little bit better then I did,I guess 22yrs in the army makes him look at life differently then I do, however, we held on to getting told it was curable and we could still have a good life after all, also it would be a bumpy road till then. What advise can I give you? Not sure . Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Yes it is. My husband is now nearly 6mths post treatment. He had an appointment today with his speech therapist and dietritian, both are very happy with his progress, which is a relief. I guess it's some kind of new normal what we are living now, but I am grateful he is still with us. I wish you all the best, stay positive and strong, with the support of loved ones you will get through this. From a fellow wife. Hugs Mel x

Yes it’s a lot to assimilate. The next six months are going to be bumpy.  SCC in a lymph node is classic presentation of HPV driven oropharyngeal cancer which has a cure rate in excess of 90% so hold onto that.
Stay with us, don’t try to second guess what will happen. There is a tried and tested route to cure, a gold standard.
There are lots of us to hold your hand through this

  • Hi Nick,

welcome to our community, and sorry to see you're going through this. We're all here to support you.

I've been in your shoes - I was diagnosed with base of tongue cancer 3 years ago. My advice is to take it one day at a time and avoid Dr. Google! Blush

I remember feeling overwhelmed when I got the news, but once you get a diagnosis and a treatment plan, you'll start to feel more in control.

Hang in there, you're not alone.
