Aloe Vera or E45?

Hi all,

Hi all,

In advance of my RT starting on Monday, the radiologist called me yesterday to discuss a few things. He advised me to put E 45 or Avenida cream on my neck before and after treatment. I told him that I had read of many people who swear by aloe vera, he said that they don’t recommend that at all, because it’s more like an oil and will fry skin!

I was under the impression that I would be given a batch of stuff to cope with side-effects when I first start treatment, but this seems not to be the case. Anyway, I just wondered if people had thoughts about the best cream to use? I also thought it was odd that he told me to put cream on before treatment as well as after……

Following this chat with him, I plan to do as I’ve been told, but I would be interested to know of other peoples thoughts on this. Thanks in advance, Bridget

  • Hello there, my husband finished his radiotherapy/chemotherapy for head and neck cancer about 5 weeks ago,all through his treatment he has being given specialised creams and  dressings to put on the wounds, flamigel was the first one, specialised RT gel, at the moment he is using Flaminal forte, these gels are amazing and designed to be used for these kind of burns,my husbands wounds are near enough fully healed, I don't know where about you are getting your treatment, but it's worth mentioning these. If you are having trouble getting these, they are available to buy on Amazon, also they are not cheap.Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey. Mel.

  • Many thanks, will do!

  • Sorry - it was a radiologist who called me - I just put the wrong word on my post! Thanks for the tip about not putting it on later than an hour before as that's what I  had been wondering. He didn't specify that, just said apply it before and after - a bit lax of him I think.....

Yours was an earlier post I had seen about the Aloe and as a result I planned to use it. I think I will get it!!

  • Both Flaminal and Flamigel are expensive so get your GP to prescribe. There’s no way we should be paying for these ourselves. Hugs
