Coming off Morphine

I'm posting on my wifes account, as I have forgotten my password.
I have stopped taking my morphine this week, I was on both a long lasting tablet version (Zomorph? 40mg a day), as well as  oral morphine (4 x 20mg). Now I have stopped, I am hurting everywhere. My shoulder aches, my hands, my back , and my legs ache. I'm struggling to sleep at night because of it.
Wondering if I should go back on the meds until I speak to a doctor?  The one thing that isn't really hurting is my throat!
I do know everyone has their own journey, but I am looking for anyone who has had a similar experience?
  • You don’t but your body does get used to them.

I did the same, because I was convinced I would become addicted to them

I came off a 120mg dose and went cold turkey, I still suffer bad sweating, chills, chest pains and in the stomach. However My gp told me to go back on it and come off slowly. I told them no way will I do that and I will wear it out and get right on my own and keep having what I suffer until it ends. I see NO reason to go back on it.

    Best to ride it out.

For you maybe but for some of us the withdrawal symptoms are just too much

i wouldn’t be recommending cold turkey over taper so glibly.

What sort of cancer did you have?

  • Hi , I came off all my pain meds together due to severe constipation, it was the worst experience I'd ever had with meds! Do not come off all at once you need to taper ,I felt shocking for a month ,and my bowels have only recently calmed down ! Be careful

  • I see NO reason to go back on it.

the fact that  you still suffer bad sweating, chills, chest pains and in the stomach, is reason enough to see your doc for something to get you through this.. do you really want to 'suffer' the symptoms?
