Mums just been diagnosed

Posted by

Hi, I'm new to the group. My mum 74 has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and secondary in lungs she wont find out what stage it is as shes had enough tests and I don't blame her. Originally went into hospital after a stroke then 4 weeks later found the tumour.  It's been a very emotional rollercoaster,  just when we thought ok she will improve and get better after the stroke were hit with the other bombshell.  Finally saw her today as she was discharged but as a palliative care patient.

Mums struggling to swallow shes has a stent fitted but has  really weak swallowing . She was tube fed in hospital but couldn't have a peg fitted because of the tumor.

She didn't even manage have a glass of milk today .

I'm just here to see what others are going through so I know were not alone.  I can't push my mum to drink more but I'd like her to gain some strength , I know it's not my call it's just so difficult. I thought she'd be desperate to drink something after being nil by mouth for a month , but I suppose its learning to use those muscles again.

I dont think my mum has long with us I just worry she'll end up feeling pain or being so weak.

I'm quite strong but feeling so broken right now more so for my mum.
