Oesophageal stent pain

Hi,

I am looking for any hints and advice.

My husband had a stent inserted 6 weeks ago. It has to be, and is quite high. As a result it is causing him a lot of pain on eating and with talking. This is affecting the amount of food I can get him to take. Chemo is in a few weeks and he already has lost so much weight.

Any thoughts or suggestions I will receive gratefully. He is incredibly stoical but this is mentally dragging him down. (Plus he has a secondary in his hip in which he has just had an intramedullary nail inserted. He really has been in the wars. Not helped by the terrible state of the NHS here in N. Ireland).

Hi tivvy,

I hope someone can help you with the stent problem soon, I have been offered a stent but not yet said yes I have oesophagus cancer with liver as a secondary, I was diagnosed 5 December.

I am reaching the stage where I will have to say yes to the stent.

Please give my best wishes to your husband, I will be watching for any replies you receive - there are some very good people on here with good advice they are helping me cope with this evil cancer.

Kind regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

Thank you! But please do not assume that all stents are painful. As I said somewhere else, it depends on how high up or low down they are. Someone else mentioned that too. My husbands is very high - they were not sure if they would succeed in placing one as his problem is caused by a lymph node very high up.

Wishing you all the best.

Viv

Hi Viv,

I will have to ask where mine is, not that I will be able to keep saying no, it feels like my chest as got a tennis ball stuck in it, I wonder if a stent stops that feeling ?.
