I have a decision to make of either surgery or radiotherapy and I need positive outcomes for both
I have localised but inoperable adenocarcinoma. I have undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy with the intent to cure but have residual malignancy.
This did not surprise me because before, during and after treatment I was not able to find any publications that definitive chemoradiotherapy is an effective cure for this histology type. Nor any anecdotal evidence from this site.
My understanding is that chemoradiotherapy is an effective cure for some squamous cell carcinomas of the oesophagus.
My advice therefore is if your tumour is an adenocarcinoma to push for supporting evidence that radiotherapy is curative.
Thanks Rosie, it is an adenocarcinoma, I have still to get chemo so its still all a mystery to me and I am having a late thought about the journey to take. Appreciate your thoughts and my good wishes for you
Hi. You can read about my treatment for Adenocarcinoma in my profile that was the standard FLOT-surgery-FLOT route. Four years on and I am fine. Truth is you probably won't read of an easier journey than mine. There are minor discomforts that I can easily manage with Lansoprazole and a slightly raised bed.
I'm very aware of that. When I was first diagnosed both my sister and my cousin knew somebody who had also come through it and were back to nearly normal. It gave me hope then.
