Hiya, this is my dad.
Squamish oesophageal tumour diagnosed four weeks ago. PET scan shows it hasn’t spread. Possible treatments include
Chemo/ radio
Palliative care with one radio to make swallowing a bit easier
Just chemo
Immunotherapyhe

can’t have a stent because the tumour is very high in oesophagus.

We are waiting for a meeting (up to ten days time) to discuss quality v quantity of life.

Hes hoping to come abroad on the family holiday in 4 weeks. We are not sure how this will pan out or if we will get insurance.

Im looking to see if anyone has has a positive outcome around this age and thoughts around the holiday.

thank you

  • Hi. Sorry to read about your dad. I am in his age bracket 82 and originally diagnosed beginning of 2023. I suspect that getting ahead with his treatment might be a higher priority than a holiday but it depends of course on the timing and the views of his MDT. On the insurance front in my experience  you will probably be able to get cover but the cover will probably exclude his cancer. I travel frequently to France and do not consider myself at any greater risk than in the uk other than the extreme case of repatriation but I would not personally travel outside the EU. There are others on this site who have been far more adventurous.   There is a section devoted to insurance cover somewhere on this site that might be if some help to you. On the medical front I went down a very different route to your dad  as I had surgery so unfortunately  I can't  comment on that aspect.
