Hi all.
I'm not really sure where to start so here goes.
My father has just been diagnosed with Oeseohagal cancer, it was all going so well, hospitals were keen to try and hit it with chemo, and even a chance of getting rid all together.
Since then he has had a PET scan and that shows it has spread to one of his kidneys. It's hit us all like a ton of bricks, I read this morning no one expects it to happen to them or their family, and isn't that the truth.
I really don't know what to write or what to expect, I guess some answers from people who have had or had relatives go through this just fir a bit of support.
I have a young family of my own but me and dad and always been like peas and carrots. We are all trying so hard to stay strong as he is, currently it was his last day of work yesterday, also a hgv driver.
Other than the diagnosis, currently he is still fit and well which kind of makes the diag unbelievable. Of course we know its true and this is really happening.
As I mentioned I don't really know what I'm saying it would just be nice to ve around people that are In the same situation as us all. And I believe this is the right place.
Thankyou all
Hi Kaya86
I hope that the PET scan results come back clear and indicate no spread and that you get a clear treatment plan to remove the cancer. The waiting is always the hardest bit. Treatment can be tough but at least you know it’s doing something. Hoping to hear good news soon. Try to keep positive. Best wishes to you both
Hi A1972 Good point, to tell you the truth, I have not asked but now got this far, I shall email the MacMillan nurse today as not due next conversation with oncology until the 15th, before Chemo No 5. I expect they will do the whole 6 treatments, them another CT scan or maybe they will do that earlier. I was presuming there would be a break for a few months, then checks
Angie.I asked and was told.
"When you finish the 6th cycle, hoping you are feeling well, there will most likely be a break from treatment dictated by how you are feeling and your symptoms. We can discuss this and how it will work closer to the date. We will likely do a CT scan at that time too but again, we will discuss this with you".
So I will just have to wait and hear.
Just to give you a bit of hope I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer that had spread to my liver , lung and lymph nodes in my neck. After 4 sessions of chemotherapy a ct scan showed no cancer in my liver, lung, and the lymph nodes in my neck were normal. The tumour had also shrunk. I know not everyone reacts the same to chemotherapy but I hope my experience gives you some optimism for your dads treatment .
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
