Evusheld for covid

I know that Evusheld has not been approved by the NHS even for immunocompromised people like us. However, I have heard on the grapevine that some people have managed to obtain it in the UK from private clinics. I can’t find any reference to this online, but does anyone have any personal experience or know anyone who has done this?

  • Hi , I see it’s your first post so welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable type of NHL Stage 4a so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is different I appreciate the challenges of this journey well.

I help out around the various blood cancer groups in this Community so there are a lot of group members and I also help out on a support platform run by Lymphoma Action where we have 3000 members…… there has been no mention of Evusheld being made available in any way the UK.

There are a few campaigns going on at the moment to try and raise the importance of drug and get the subject raised in Parliament - time will tell.

I do hope you are keeping well. I had covid back in March and even although I have had two Allo (donor) Stem Cell Transplants and severely immunocompromised I was fine, hard worse colds and although I was eligible for the antivirals we (my consultant and an Infectious Diseases Consultant) agreed that I did not need them.

The link below is the most up to date information on Evusheld produced by Lymphoma Action.

  • Hi Mike. Thanks for your reply.I had seen the official notice on availability of Evusheld.. My husband, who is the one with CLL, and has had a stem cell transplant and zero immunity to Covid, was told by his consultant at Oxford that some patients had managed to get Evusheld in London clinics, despite the official word that it is not available . He did not have any details, and I was hoping that someone on this forum might have information about that.

  • Hi again. It’s interesting how our immunity to covid is measured.

My Stem Cell Transplant consultant told me that they were not testing for anyone for antibody levels as the tests only provid one dimension as to our immune response following SCT and the vaccines.

When I tested positive my wife, daughter, son in law and 7 year old granddaughter all tested positive at the same time…… it was taken in through our granddaughter from school…… out of us all I had the least side effects with my wife and daughter having a bad week and months on still have the cough……. me nothing.

Let’s see if anyone can shed light on the availability but as I said, I talk with a lot of people from around the UK and have so far not heard a single mention until your post.

  • There have been, and still are, some ongoing trials.

Those on the Provent trial were then moved to a sub trial for Evusheld.

But I know of nobody who has obtained Evusheld through anything other than drug trials in the UK.

  • Hi Mike and Dick. Thanks for your replies. My husband has been tested for Covid antibodies as part of a trial he is on for Pirtobrutinib (a research stage trial drug). Another dimension of protection against Covid in addition to antibodies is generally considered to be T cells, but his T cell levels are also very low, giving him no apparent protection against Covid that way either. Hence his continued shielding.  His consultant had been at a meeting with other CLL and other leukaemia specialists and had asked the question whether anyone was obtaining Evusheld privately. The answer was yes, a few in London, and the inference was that that was outside of trials, but there was no specific information given.

  • I actually have a T-Cell NHL so my T-Cells remain in a delicate position even 6 years 9 months post my second Allo SCT. All my other main blood counts regularly sit at the lower end of the acceptable levels…… but I am living a rather normal life just ensuring that we assess where we go and who we see Thumbsup
