Hi all. I see there is some discussion 5 years ago on this matter. Wonder if anyone has any recent experience or advice. I am 7 days after mastectomy. My drain was showing 100 ml today ( it was 60 yesterday). My breast nurse advised me not to shower yet. I'm feeling grotty, still having pain and discomfort. I'm told it has to go down to 30ml before it is removed. Anyone any advice ,?
Hi I hade my mastectomy in October 4 weeks after drain it will get better soon xxx
I had one of my two drains removed after about a week but the second (a deep one) stayed till 15 days. I had immediate reconstruction after my mx with an implant but bled and it had to be repeated 30 hours later. it’s annoying to have to cope with a drain but your team will know when it’s best removed. I hope the pain and discomfort eases for you soon
I hope so. Thanks
Thanks Moomy. I opted not to have reconstruction to avoid complications. I think I was just expecting the drain to be empty earlier. The info I was given on the ward was poor...just a badly photocopied sheet!
Oh that’s sad, hope you improve very soon. Don’t forget to rest enough but do those shoulder exercises! Hugs xxx
