Hi I’m new here and have been  panicking since receiving my smear results 3 days ago. I just wanted to ask a question really.
The results stated that I was HPV positive and abnormal cells were found so I was going to be sent an urgent coloscopy appointment for treatment in the next two weeks. I phoned the dr up to see if she could explain to me the ‘abnormal cells result’ and how abnormal they are. All she was basically saying was they are ‘suggestive of cancer’. This has now sent me into a blind panic as from what I’m reading online everyone’s smear results letter states the grade of the abnormal cells (borderline, mild, severe) and mine does not. Does this mean they know it’s cancer?

has anyone had their results where it didn’t state the grade of the cells

I got my coloscopy appointment the day after I received the smear results and it’s next week

thanks for reading

  • Hi, I had my loop excision  and  the  results that came back were CIN 1 & CGIN high grade(glandular). I then went for a second loop excision as they said the first was incomplete, under general anaesthetic ,and the histology from that was low grade CGIN and all the excision margins were clear. I’ve been told no further treatment is warranted at the this time.I have to go back in 6 months time for colposcopy, ectocervical and endocervical smears.

When I first got the letter telling me I had abnormal cells but wasn’t given a grade it made me  very anxious but when I went to the colposcopy clinic the nurse told me no grade was given as they literally didn’t know and it it was when they did the loop when they actually found out.

Hope your appointment goes well x

  • That’s very much for your reply. That puts my mind at ease.
    Hope you are doing ok!
