Did they say that it could be related to that,  as chemo affect liver function?

My ALT was up during chemo. Oncologist was watching it but it is coming right now. Hopefully yours will too. x

Hello there

I’m one year on from chemo and I have my liver checked regularly by my GP

My onco very firmly but politely told my GP

Errrrrr so what were you expecting ?

So upshot is I don’t get too worried and now neither does my GP. She has a fancy graph that shows her all is moving in the right direction

Hope this helps

Life is like a boxing match, defeat is declared not when you fall ..... But when you refuse to stand up again ....... So, I get knocked down but I get up again. x

Please don’t get panicking.

(I had lumpectomy and radiotherapy in October 2017)

Twelve months later, I had my first annual check up.

I was like this last year - for different reasons, but the same thoughts.

I had raise ALTs, 39 - range should be less than 34. I also had raised Gamma GT - so I pancaked like anything especially as my lovely late father had secondaries in his liver.

At this time I was over weight (I still am - let’s say a work in progress) and also had high blood sugar readings Hb1AC way above range! - to the point I was/should be diabetic. I was told to stop drinking (I don’t drink as such).

I was told you can have high ALTs and GGT readings if you are over weight and/or are diabetic - you have what is called a ‘non acholholic fatty liver’.

‘If’ you are a drinker this too raises these numbers and you have an alcohol enduced ‘fatty liver’

So initial shock and upset.  I change my eating and start walking (if only I was keeping up with this - tomorrow I will start again), I have lost approx  25lb (I still have loads to loose)

Anyway, 6 months on another blood check and my ALTs are now in range and my GGT are nearly there!!!

I have other readings now out of range - but I think this is down to the change in my food, I will try and work on these.

So please, please don’t get panicking and thinking the worse.  Your body had gone through such a hard time and is now slowly recovering.

Sending hugs xxx

Yes I know I need to be patient and let things settle and I’m lucky that my GP is so cautious and likes to check things throughly thank you and well done with the weight loss so far.
