Work problem

I have an appointment in a week's time to get biopsy results and find out what happens next as far as a treatment plan is concerned. I told my employer a week before Christmas that I had been recalled following a routine mammogram and after that appointment told them about having had biopsies done and I'm waiting for hospital appointment. I have been signed off work until the end of January as I'm really not coping well with the wait for results etc. I had hoped my employer would give me space as I said I'd let them know when I myself know more but first day back at work for them after the Christmas break and they've already phoned and text me, asking what's happening. I don't feel I need to tell them any more than I have already, especially as my GP has signed me off work. This added pressure from my employer isn't helping in the slightest. If it was out of genuine concern I could almost accept it but I truly feel it is only because I know they are short staffed and want me to say ill be back at work soon. As if this waiting for results isn't stressful enough.

  • i think you should reply simply saying you’ll keep them informed and will let them know when you have more news.

  • Hi SEE,

Thank you. That's what I've done and not planning to get into any more discussions or text conversations with them. It's too upsetting and stressful.

  • Hi Heatherlassie,

I agree with info from SEE. Just keep them informed that you're not ready for work yet.

I was diagnosed in May and haven't been back yet. I've had my op chemo and radiotherapy. Which all finished October 2024. I plan to return February.

However I'm on Letrozole for 5 years and have side effects from that of sore joints and bones so still not 100%. Also my anxiety still bad as every ache or discomfort I'm scared it's returned. Maybe work distraction will help with that.

Good luck in your recovery journey xx

  • Hi

You are so right, it is stressful enough dealing with a diagnosis without having to be dealing with pressure from work. You do have rights as an employee which your employer might not be aware of.

Here's a link on your rights which is worth having a read and if necessary, provide the details to your employer.  They should 'back off' and give you the space you need to deal with it all when they realise what their responsibilities to you are!

I do hope the results come back with the best possible outcome when you get your results.

    Kindest Wishes, Lesley
