Hi I’m new to the MacMillan community, and still in treatment for HER2 and triple negative intratumoral heterogeneity.

Hi I’m new to this forum, but have been in treatment for intratumoral heterogenous breast cancer ( 2 distinct areas of cancer cells in same tumour , one HER2 and the other triple negative)., for just over 12 months .Diagnosis was difficult and took several pathology histology reviews and opinions taking several months. Fortunately I started generic chemo early 19 days after mastectomy before the final histology verdict.. I’m now on cycle 14 out of 17 of dual herceptin monoclonal antibody targetted treatment.  I,ve as already mentioned,  had a mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy ( macromet in lymph node 1)., adjuvant  chemo inc epirubicin, cyclophosphamide and, phesgo and radiotherapy, as well as biphosphonates. Despite this I have managed to get back to work as a busy midwife ( 5 days after radiotherapy).in May.  I’ve been lucky to not be hospitalised at all on this journey ( I left hospital 30 mins after returning from theatre recovery after my mastectomy.)

I don’t fit into any prognostic predict models and my cancer is rare. Going back to work has given me a sense of normality and has helped my mental health. It is nice to be able to share experiences with you and I hope I can give and receive support on forum.

  • Hi Sara x

    Welcome to the forum.

It sounds that you have had a time of it, but have remained positive throughout. I'm glad uou are back at work and managing well.

I'm her2neg erpostitve andprpositive. I had the same treatment regime of chemo and now having my radiotherapy. I will be on Levetrole for 5 years then Tamoxifen.

It was hard going the chemo but doable. I found the fatigue my worst side effect. Happy to report I feel myself getting stronger now the chemo out my system.

Onwards and upwards. Wishing you well with your recovery xx

  • I feel some empathy with your troubles, as i have total four tumours in one breast of different pathology, one triple negative, two ER+ and one benign.  Weird?  Nobody else seemed to have experienced this when I first posted, so I assumed it was unusual.  Is that something like you?  On the good side, there does not seem to be any spread beyond the breast, and I am currently having neo adjuvant chemo before a mastectomy.

I do admire you working - I have recently retired.  No way could I do that!  I am very impressed and you are clearly strong and I'm sure you will recover fully.
