Cording during radiotherapy

Hello.

I had severe cording after axillary node clearance in Feb. It was resolved with physio but now I am had way through radiotherapy it looks like cording is coming back as my arm is very tight and armpit looks different to other one.

I mentioned it to the radiologist yesterday about the tightness and she said it was not unusual given arm is in an unnatural position whilst the radiotherapy is taking place.

Did anyone else having cording issues during radiotherapy?

  • HI  , yes... I had no cording after surgeries but have had cording and tightness since radiotherapy and it is proving very difficult to completely shift. It's now nearly 8 months since my radiotherapy ended and I still have tightness and some v deep cords that improve with regular massage / treatment but then return. I also have some lymphoedema (in my breast / side) since rads too that I control with a quick lymphatic drainage massage every morning (as this also impacts tightness).

Maybe ask for a referral? I hope your radiotherapy is going ok.

  • Hi bobof. Sorry to hear this, I really sympathise as I had it very badly after axillary node clearance and it was very stubborn to get rid of.

  • I had cording post surgery and now have a lot of chest wall muscle tightness a year post-rads. I’ve been lucky in that this area has a Macmillan-funded late effects clinic. They won’t see you until you’re a year out from finishing rads. But I’ve also been advised that firm massaging and shoulder and arm exercises should be done daily, really for the rest of your life. I’m doing my best, even with an arthritic other hand…
