Has anyone been affected by a spread to the ovaries?
Yes, my appendix cancer had to my ovaries, in fact it spread throughout my abdomen. It was discovered during a hysterectomy operation in January 2011.
Do you know how far yours has spread? Has your surgeon discussed options with you?
It's not been confirmed yet :( Waiting on MRI results which I get on Friday. I've already survived spread to my lungs and thought I was in the clear. I get a 3 monthly PET scan and the latest one showed tracer uptake. I had a colonoscopy last week which is totally clear so they suspect that the ovaries are affected. Oncologist has also mentioned that it could just be physiological activity which has been picked up! So worried!
Oh, the waiting is horrible isn't it? It sounds like you've done brilliantly so far to fight against it. Great that your colonoscopy came back clear.
I hope that the result on Friday is the best it can be. Try to find something else to think about tomorrow! Maybe think up a few questions just in case?
Hi Rhona x
I had emergency surgery in Feb to remove a blockage from my bowel which turned out to be bowel cancer. They also performed an hysterectomy as it had spread to my womb and ovaries and also my liver. The surgery was successful in removing the tumours, I.m just left battling what is now on my liver. I can honestly say that I haven't experienced any effectrs from having the ovaries removed, no hot flushes, or any other menopause symtoms, not sure whether this is due to having the surgery done all at once. I am 43 years young lol! so wasn't expecting to encounter 'women issues' for some time, but he ho it's better than not being here at all. They did make me laugh in hospital as they asked me how i felt about not being able to have anymore children! my boys are 20 and 17, so the thought of having anymore horrified me! They did tell me I was pregnant when I first went into And E and could be having an eptopic pregnancy as they didnt know what was wrong with me, I cried more at this news than I did when they said I had cancer.
Sending you a big hug, try not to worry and stay positive xx
Diva Cal xx
Hi sounds like you've been through the mill! Good luck with your liver treatment. Are you getting an op on your liver? I'm hoping they tell me its nothing to worry about tomorrow! x
I've been referred to the liver specialist now at the QE in Birmingham to see whether he can do the surgery. I have an MRI scan on 1st November and then they will hold a joint meeting to discuss my case, the waiting is the hardest part on this journey x
I know the waiting is the worst :( Hopefully you can get surgery. I couldn't get surgery on my lungs but they did radio frequency ablation and which burnt the tumours out. That was last year and it seems to have been successful. I know they can do this on liver too where surgery isn't possible. Let me know how you get on after the MRI. I'll let you know my results tomorrow. Don't have an appt - just waiting on a phone call which is even worse coz you don't know when its going to be! x
Hope your ok x have you had the call yet?
hi i had bowel cancer had right hemocolectomy last year then chemo,, then jan got told there was something on my liver and in my pelvis. i had already had a hystorectomy but still had my tubes... in april this year had tubes removed and it was abnormal cells! then in june i had my liver op,, with one of the best liver surgeons in the country and one of the nicest,, down to earth,, tells u how it is no messing around..my tummy looks like i have a fight with a shark but im still here,,,now waiting for next scan and get results on december 13th,, just in time for my birthday and xmas..lol
im 41 i get a really hot face and dont sleep very well they did give me hormones but they did not make any difference and they could not give me a higher dose as my liver is still not working properly i have had blood clots and im over weight,,, so i have stopped taking them and i feel fine,, better with out them,, just glow in the dark with the red face...lol
the more i read the more i think that bowl cancer seems to spread faster than any other cancer, could be wrong,,,
i was trying to find out if they do a make a wish sort of thing for the kids of parents who r going through cancer,,, im on my own with my two and they have been so brilliant,, but have had no help.. my local mm nurse came round once before i started chemo she left a message on my pone and i never heard from her again!... so does anyone know who i could speak to to see if i could get a treat for my kids?
Sorry you have it in your ovary but glad the are operating, my surgeon said if you can cut it out that is the best treatment.
I had my op in 2009, but has spread to my lungs, about 10 speckled on both lungs, my onc said they cannot laser or operate on them , but you said you had yours ablated, so glad it has worked, was wondering if you had many and if they were very big.
Good luck with everything let us know how you get on.
I am on a chemo break atm , go for ct scan end of month, if my mets have not grown, can stay off chemo yay , but if they have grown have to have more chemo boo.
Take care ,
Thanks Rhona, I think I have too many, got 10 on each lung, and it might damage too much lung, but will ask onc again.
I live in Essex so hopefully one of the London hospitals could do it if I can have it done.
When is your op.
