Hi all I have just been diagnosed with bowel cancer. I have still not had any results back from MRI etc . I am finding the waiting so tough . Did everyone else feel as terrified as I am now ? Unable to sleep or eat much can't concentrate on anything. I'm hoping once I have a plan of treatment things will get easier !
Hi Guff,
I’m so sorry that you’ve been diagnosed with bowel cancer. My husband was told that he has bowel cancer too, he was diagnosed only 13 days ago, after a colonoscopy. It found a tumour in his rectum & it’s been such a shock for us both.
Hubby has an MRI booked for later this afternoon, then a CT scan on Tuesday of next week. We both feel in limbo with everything right now, you must feel the exact same. The waiting is so horrible. We try to go out each day, even for a short walk, just to try and distract ourselves.
I’ve been told by so many supportive people on here that once you get a treatment plan, things will start to feel better. That’s what I’m hoping for my hubby, then he can start to fight back. And you can too.
Take care,
Roses
Hi
The waiting is awful your thoughts just go off the scale worst case scenarios everything.
My husband and I have been through that this week we only got results yesterday.
A MacMillan nurse told me to only think of the facts the rest is your mind making it up and she was right.
only think of what you know to be facts.
it’s extremely hard and I was sick to my stomach with worry but the only fact we knew was that it was cancer.
I hope you get your results soon and then you will have a treatment plan in place.
Thinking of you x
Hi
Just had to say that the waiting is very hard. I felt much better when I had started my treatment. Wishing you luck and hope you get something sorted soon.
Hi Rosie
the waiting is just the worst!
my mind has been going out of control.
is it a 5cm tumour as well?
my husbands is in the sigmoid colon.
very scary not knowing what lies ahead but we can all support each other x
Yes 5cm tumour he goes to see the surgeon on Wednesday his brother goes with him to all his appointments. He had testicular cancer 16 yrs ago so has an idea what he's going through.
If the size of the tumour doesn't matter why do they stage them
The staging is based on how far the tumour has grown into the bowel wall, whether there is spread to other organs and whether they suspect there may be affected lymph nodes. You could have a ‘long’ tumour that is still contained in the the first wall of the bowel or a ‘small’ tumour that has progressed into the layers of the bowel wall. There’s a good explanation in the link below

Hi Rosie
my husbands is 5cm x 2.5 but has grown into the outer layer of the bowel but not through it. He is T3 M1 N0
we will find out if they will do surgery then chemo or chemo then surgery on Thursday.
it’s the not knowing that is so scary x
