Hi again guys,
Sorry for all of my posts but after your surgeries what are your stools like, now I know bowel function may not ever return to normal after a LAR but I thought once the tumour was removed and everything was reconnected my stools would start looking a bit normal, days after surgery once I managed to go my poops were looking great but right now there rather pencil thin looking again and a little mushy which is freaking me out… am I over thinking it, is it my diet, maybe I need to change that or is that I’m on and off using lactulose and my rectum is freaking out, I started chemo last Wednesday and the diarrhoea hasn’t kicked in yet x
Thanks again in advance
Hi VJS1985. Good advice from Gemmary. I would be tempted to drop the lactulose and let nature take its course and see how your ‘new’ bowel movements are. Having part of your bowel removed means that waste spends less time travelling through your system and therefore less liquid is absorbed causing the looser stools. I’ve attached a link to a booklet below that might help and as Gemmary says it is still early days yet

Hi VJS1985.
I'm just a very little behind you but I'm still on a low residue, low fibre diet.
Have you noticed any trends to the mush triggers? For me, I wasn't on any meds, it was simply when I tried introducing a few too many teaspoons of fruit or veg - i found reducing back down just a little really did help reduce unpleasant and unplanned output.
If very gentle diet adjustment doesn't work, I agree with others - the nurses may be best to advise. But I would add that worry may in itself add to looser bowel movements, so if you can relax and think less about it, it may also help (always easier said than done, i appreciate).
My chemo will start next week, so I'll be interested to see how our bottoms behave in the coming weeks ;)
All the best for now.
