Hello,

Just had a call from the hospital to book me for a CT scan of my chest any body out there had this done for bladder cancer any help would be appreciated.

Phil

  • Hi

I have them every six months. The actual scan is painless and over in about 10 minutes and you normally have a dye injected, which gives a warm sensation. Some hospitals ask you wear a gown, but I'm under Barts and they don't require you wear a gown.

Just to add, as others have stated, this a standard procedure for Bladder Cancer. The results are usually available in 10 days.

It doesn't matter where you go, there you are
  • Good luck to you both Halofan and Rictic for your scans on Wednesday. We'll all have our fingers crossed. Hx

  • Yep par for course just to check it hasn't spread to other organs and lymph nodes.

They will inject a contrast medium which will feel warm and weird going through your body. A small amount to make sure you don't have a reaction to it first then the main dose and scans. Nothing really to worry about in most cases.

Mine was done in a mobile scanner trailer at Whitworth Hospital in chesterfield very clean and tidy and helpful staff.

The waiting room was literally a broom cupboard with 5 or so chairs in it.

You will have to wait around for a while after the contrast and scan before they release you to go home. Think it was about 40 mins from memory.

The bed will slides you in and out of the machine whilst taking the scans, I'm nervous as anything with anything I've never had to have done before and I was fine with itz apart from feeling hot and fuzzy inside while the contrast medium was being injected.

It's purely to rule out any further problems when you have bladder cancer, in my case everything g was fine as it is in a lot of cases.

It is just standard procedure when suspected cancer presents.
