To smear or not to smear....

Hello

Sorry, I know I'm a total arse for not being on here - but I'm trying to set myself up as a coach and hustling all the time on socials!  Anyway I got invited to have a smear and I went for that smear today.

I finished treatment for anal cancer on 19th January 2025.  I got the all-clear in May at first PET scan!

I told the nurse that there seems to be real confusion about going for a smear not going for a smear after having pelvic radiotherapy and her advice was clear, if you get invited - go.

That's it - not wanting to get-into-a-debate about what your oncologist told you didn't tell you etc.

The smear took less time that it did for me to put my sandals on - it was a little ouchy but to be honest no more so than I previously remembered.

Lots of love

  • Hello Ali

I am just delighted that you are getting on with life and that is fantastic news about your clear scan - just brilliant!

  • Hi Ali

That's very interesting as my colorectal surgeon said he will send me for a colposcopy after my treatment finishes as he send all female patients presenting with AC to check out the cervix and vagina as the two things are anatomically so close and both affected by the HPV virus.

Sounds like you are living your life to the fullest and moving on from the cancer diagnosis. I hope I am able to do the same as you in terms of positivity and get-up-and-go:)

Best of luck moving forward and menopause coaching sounds like a very worthwhile pursuit.

  • Hi Ali ( ),

My nurse told me the exact same thing, she also said if I wanted to continue with them when I was no longer sent for then I could request them & they’ll be done. Good on you for going Clap I’ve just done my 2nd bowel screening test since finishing my treatment.
