Can I ask what was the length of time from initial diagnosis to start of treatment for you all ? its only been a few weeks for me but curious on the wait , initially I have gone through NHS which up to now has been pretty quick with biopsies and scans but I have private health care through work its seems a minefield but starting to think about using it
Thanks Emma
I had a meeting with my oncologist today reviewing my 6 month PET scan and MRI they are pleased with my anal cancer treatment but have noticed some bright spots on my liver, so another MRI and waiting game until 12th July. To say I’m worried is an understatement.

It is always absolutely nerve-wracking when something shows up on a scan and I can totally understand what you are going through right now. I hope the next three weeks go very quickly. Sending a big hug.

One thing everyone needs to keep in mind with anal cancer. It isn’t like acute leukemia with hundreds of thousands of cancer cells careening throughout the body; it’s actually one of the slower growing cancers. Often it’s been present in your body for YEARS before symptoms were noticed. With that in mind, try to be patient within reason for treatment to start. This gives your treatment team time to plan your individual course which is better for you in the long run.
Whenever a person is told “you have cancer” the shock of this is tremendous and only those unfortunates really understand how your life changes in a second. It’s normal to want something done NOW to get rid of it.
I do think doctors need to get results of tests and scans to worried folks faster. In my experience I think that physicians who have either had cancer themselves or a close family member are better at getting results to patients faster.
So have faith in your doctors that treatment will be individualized for you and begun in a reasonable length of time.
My treatment was finished in July 2022 and I hardly remember it, it went by so quickly!
