My parents have refused all help for the last few months but Dad is reaching the end now. Mum today has begun to consider the possibility of Hospice at Home help ......how do we get this? Dads GPis actively involved in his care and the district nursing team are also just involved but not coming in daily etc.  I think the need is now quite urgent having been over today. Please help.

Has your dad got a Macmillan nurse. the gp district nurses or macmillan nurses should be able to refer. If it's very urgent over the weekend, the out of hours gp should be able to refer you. Good luck

Thank you Margaret. They don't have a Macmillan Nurse as they refused contact a year ago. I have been slowly chipping away to get to this point. They are very proud people and have strange ideas sometimes which I have to respect. I will mention to Mum that the district nursing team can do it before Monday if needed. Thank you

Hi DaddiesGrownUpGirl

We seem to be going through the same journey at the sane time. The hospice is coming for an initial visit with my dad tomorrow. This was prompted by his consultant. We met with her weeks ago and she said she would contact them and MacMillan - this is the first contact we've had from them but my dad was reluctant to chase it up, no matter how many times I asked. I was over at his today and his legs have swollen up, his tummy is extremely bloated and he took a nose bleed. He won't let me call MacMillan but I think I will call the helpline for advice. He is in contact with his GP though and they gave him prescription protein drinks as he is finding it difficult to eat. He also got water retention tablets. I wish I could help more but he refuses everything as he doesn't want to burden me.

I hope you are okay. X
