Hi everyone. I've signed up to the online community after my lovely mum has received an unexpected diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. We're very close, and I'm trying to support her as much as possible, but I'm obviously very worried. There's lots to take in, while trying to be strong, and would value any advice from people who are going through similar situations. Thanks in advance :)

Hello Simonr93, I’m sorry to hear about your Mums diagnosis. Welcome to the online community, I see your making yourself at home already by joining the pancreatic cancer group, that’s great as you can as any questions specific to that cancer in there to support your Mum. I have a different cancer and two daughters but I thought I’d pop in to welcome you and also suggest that you might need support at times for yourself. It’s not always easy to remain strong and as you say you would value talking to others in a similar situation, I thought I’d suggest a couple of groups, I don’t know if your still living with your Mum so have a look at the carers group, or you might find family and friends more suitable. I’ve given some links for you to click on and find them quicker below.

Its sometimes difficult to know what to do or say to support someone so I hope you don’t mind me suggesting a read of talking about cancer, the link is below, it also has suggestions of little things to do to help.

Thank you so much for replying and sharing those links, I really appreciate it! Yes, I still live with mum so the carer group will be really useful - especially so I can support her the best way I can, as well as supporting my dad to cope as he's really struggling with it all. The realisation keeps hitting at different time points, usually when you least expect it! Thanks again and take care :)
