Targeted treatment

I have melanoma which has spread. I am about to start targeted treatment on the 4th Feb (not sure which one yet), having recently completed 5 radiotherapy sessions on my spine and wondered if there is a forum out there for people in a similar situation. I was running prior to my diagnosis and am finding it hard as I have been advised not to run for at least 6 weeks whilst the radiotherapy settles.

So sorry to hear about what you’re going through. It’s so tough to go through treatment like this. I can understand your frustration at not being able to run.

Can I ask what you’ve been told about your future? I don’t know much about melanoma but I do know that when a solid tumour has spread it becomes incurable even if it can be treated. If that’s the situation for you, then do look at the group living with incurable cancer. We are a friendly group and you’ll get lots of support from people who know what it’s like

I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma back in July 2015 my first treatment was the targeted therapy Dabrafenib I haven’t had radiotherapy though. Let’s see if you can find someone with the experience you want by posting in the melanoma group.

I had 2 lymph nodes removed back in November and understand the treatment will not cure me. I am relatively young and otherwise fit, so am hoping any treatment will just keep me around for a while longer

Hi , it sounds like your saying the melanoma had only spread to two lymph nodes that have been removed and you are starting targeted therapy as an adjuvant treatment to prevent any further spreads. Please correct me if I’m wrong, I usually look at peoples profiles to find out a bit more to give some better answers. You can look at mine by pressing on my user name. There are a number of people having Dabrafenib with Tramatenib as an adjuvant treatment in the melanoma group. There’s a discussion that started a few days ago you might want to read and /or join in.
