Continuity of care when moving to new area

Hello

we are moving from Kent to Hertfordshire . My husband is no longer having active treatment but does have biopsies and bloods every 3 months at the hospital haematology unit in KENT.

We really want my husbands follow ups to remain at the original hospital (in Kent) after we move to Hertfordshire.   Is this possible?

Hi

I don't see why this wouldn't be possible. Shortly after I was diagnosed with melanoma we moved counties but I wanted to stay with my original consultant and did so.

When that consultant retired he recommended a consultant in the county next door to the one I now live in. I phoned my GPs practice and told them which hospital I wanted to move to and which consultant I wanted to see and that was arranged.

Hopefully, you'll have no problems either.

Thank you so much.  Glad you did this for yourself.  I was concerned that as it’s different counties “budgets” etc that it wld be an issue but this seems not.  Thanks

I will speak to gp practice in new area and see if this is still the case.

I didn't speak to my new GP practice about staying where I was , I just stayed. To be honest I don't think that it crossed my mind that it would be a problem. They would have discovered that I was staying put as my consultant sent a report to my GP, which I got copied into, every time I went to see him. I only contacted my surgery when I knew that my consultant was retiring and I needed to get something in place ready for my next check-up.
