so I’m feeling rough.  How long will this last

Hi Uplift,

I have ovarian cancer and have received four cycles of carbotaxol and Avastin so far. Yes, I get the horrible pains in my legs and feet which stop me sleeping each time but it only lasts for 4-5 days max. I found the first time was worst, I think maybe because I didn’t know what to expect and I wondered if it would go on the whole time. Now I manage with paracetamol and Voltarol gel if I need it and by day 7 I am starting to feel human again. Hopefully you will too.

Best wishes, Nell x

Hi, I am sorry you feel so rough. A few days after my first chemo I had a urine infection as well which didn’t help - I ended up in A&E overnight with a high temperature and the antibiotics gave me awful diarrhoea - but I started to feel better after about a week. Are you drinking plenty of water to flush everything through the system? I don’t think I was drinking enough the first time, apparently you should have at least 2.5 litres each day. I also got obsessed by my symptoms and was taking my temperature and blood pressure about 10 times a day! It’s so hard when you just don’t know what to expect. If you are anxious about how you are feeling it’s quite good to phone your Chemo Specialist Nurse for a chat - mine are lovely and always put my mind at rest. Also, have you tried posting on the Ovarian Group? There are lots of chats and discussions about this kind of thing on the Ovarian Group - there will always be someone who has experienced the same kind of things as you and there are some lovely ladies who always reply.

Best wishes, Nell x

Oh no

hospital again is just what you needed.  I think I’m doing just the same taking my temp etc.  Always feeling cold though. I think panic takes over too. I’m very wobbly on my feet too. However I’m up and dressed and showered toady ( a start) I’ve had meltdowns too ( poor hubby).  I just feel I haven’t had a chance to catch ny breathe.  I went straight from a total ab hysterectomy to this 6 weeks later.  Just got healed and hit again.  I did pass out a couple of days ago.  I think you get overwhelmed by feeling so poop  I’m just exhausted

im looking forward but dreading the next round.  I have never been so tearful and I know it’s because I’m not in control.  I don’t do I’ll and now it got me.  Lol

im so pleased you replied and I do hope your now feeling better.  Or as well as you can

Hi Uplift,

Thought I’d check in and see if you are feeling any better now after two (?) weeks? I do hope so. It must be difficult to handle the onslaught of chemo so soon after major surgery. Mine has happened the other way round and I went into chemo feeling quite well which is probably why it has been easier. I agree about the feeling of not being in control though, it makes every problem or set-back feel like a disaster but you’ll get there.

Best wishes, Nell xxx

Hi Nell

nice to hear from you.  I’m better this week but it’s been hard going. Just generally dizzy n rough

spoke to my oncologist yesterday ( called re a temperature) told him I had to go to bed for 9 days

he told me that none of his other ladies are like this.  I now feel as though I’m over egging the pudding somewhat

is it as rough as I think.?  Yes. I fainted. My body obviously feels the same  he asked if I could put up with it

well of course if I know it’s doing it’s job I’ll stay in bed

my hair is enroute to the bin via my hairbrush and nothing I eat has a taste

hope your ok and things are going well.  What week are you up to now?  I hope your symptoms have eased

again my thanks
