Wife has terminal cancer

Hello,my name is Jake and I'm a full time carer for my wife who has bowel cancer.Because of complications from the past she is not suitable for treatment. She has become much worse over the last day. Vomiting a lot and in pain.

I do everything I can for her. However I'm sick with worry and I'm hoping to get help from a local hospice.

  • Phone your surgery and ask to speak to the GPs secretary, your wifes GP will be better able to liaise with local hospice charity workers in your area ,much more effective than trying to contact local hospices directly. The nurses/assistants will in turn have a relationship with all hospices who offer home or hospice care. The GP surgery should be helping you with this .

  • Thanks for your reply, sadly Tracey died later that same day.I've only just started coming back on this site.At least she didn't suffer as much as I thought.

    Never give iup.
  • A few weeks after l offered that advice l was in a very similar situation , everything was closed down over xmas then a miracle happened on New Years day and a Hospice liaison nurse found my husband a hospice bed where he was looked after so well before he died a few days later. I had gone home briefly to get changed and he died. I had been with him every single day from diagnosis until just before he died and it upset me. At least you were with your beloved through to the very end . Small comfort l know ,l am so sorry .

  • I'm sure you did your very best. When Tracey said she wanted to die at home I was scared, I didn't know how I would cope.In the end I did. Supporting someone through end of life is one of the kindest things you can do. Stay strong.

    Never give iup.
