Breast cancer for the under-50s

Breast cancer is far less common in the under-50s, but this can leave younger people with a diagnosis feeling isolated. This group is a place for them to come together, share experiences and support each other.

Wheels fallen off

Had my results yesterday, I thought I could get away with just radiotherapy, but it turns out I need chemo too because of hoe aggressive the cancer was. On a plus side, the lymph nodes were clear so it hasn't spread. Why then do I feel like the wheels have fallen off???

So sorry you have to have chemo.

I was advised to have chemo, as although I had a left side mastectomy and the tumour was gone I did have lymph nodes involved but no other spread, thankfully.

I really didn’t want chemo, however over the Christmas holidays I thought about nothing else and decided to ‘go for it’ and throw everything at the bugger. My two youngest children were only 15 and 13 at the time and I wanted to be able to look at them and know I was doing all I could.

Everybody is different, I would say it’s perfectly ‘normal’, whatever that is, to feel the way you do. Treatments and the planning of what is best specifically for you can change, just know your team will do or advise what is best for you.

Wishing you all the best x

Hello i get you, i had a lumpectomy just after christmas and thought that would be that but unfortunately it didn't go to plan and i needed more treatment. I felt like the whole thing had gone wrong, but i got the all clear last week so when i look back everything was worth of it.

Maybe try looking at it a different way, you was doing this journey straight down the motorway but you have just taken a turning and now taking the scenic route. You will still arrive at the same destination it will just take a little bit longer.

You can still do this, best do all that needs to be done to make sure its gone than get to the end and be told you have to start again.

Keep strong, xxx
