Do you have to wait 3 months after you finished treatment before any scan can be done?
Lung cancer radio.
Hello r mondo
Thank you for your query.
When you have a follow up scan will often depend on the treatment that you've had. If you have had a long course of radiotherapy, the treatment causes a lot of inflammation in the treatment area so it is usual to leave enough time for that inflammation to settle before doing another scan. If a scan is done too soon, the pictures aren't clear, and things may look worse than they actually are. Therefore it is quite normal to have to wait 3-4 months after radiotherapy before having another scan. If you have just had chemotherapy or a short course of radiotherapy, the scan may be sooner depending on when the oncologist has decided they want to see you.
I hope that has answered your question sufficiently.
