  • Hello NannyA,

Thank you for getting in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support, and welcome to our online community.

My name is Annerose and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Support line.

I am sorry to hear about your partners diagnosis and understand your concern about the timing of further treatment.

Unfortunately, Covid has caused treatment delays in most hospitals and clinics. This could be to minimise the risk of contracting Covid or because they are still trying to cope with the unprecedented demands on their services.

Generally, you could expect a follow up appointment within 2 to 3 weeks, but this will depend on the local availability of the hospital and the guidelines they have put into place. They might have mentioned a time or date when they told your partner about their decision for further surgery?

If you and your partner are concerned about any delay, it’s best to speak to the Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Consultant. They make their decision in their weekly Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings, helped by colleagues from all disciplines, based on results. They will be best placed to give you this information as they have access to the available schedule for clinics and surgeons.

I hope this has been helpful, this website is a Melanoma specific website and you might find further helpful information on there. But please don’t hesitate and get back in touch with us if you want to talk about this some more or have more questions.

    Best Wishes

    Annerose

  • Hi Annerose-Macmillan

Thank you for your prompt reply. Hopefully my partner won’t have to wait too long. It’s quite daunting really and I’m shocked at how this has made me feel, my partner seems fine and I guess thankfully for him he’s quite busy with work so probably helped him. We will continue to support each other and stay positive and hopefully all will be fine.

    Thank you again.
