  • Hi I am about to have my second round tomorrow but i also have been having nose bleeds only light though haven't really had any discomfort from it.

  • Hi Bawhead,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Gail and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses.

Chemotherapy can affect important blood levels in the body, such as your platelets, which are responsible for clotting. For this reason, we would encourage you to contact your hospital team to let them know about your nosebleeds.

Usually you’re given a 24hr chemotherapy helpline number from the hospital and it would be best to speak with them directly as they are experienced Oncology Nurses who can triage your symptoms over the phone and offer the best advice. They also have access to your recent blood levels.

If you don’t have a 24hr chemotherapy helpline, please don’t hesitate to contact 111, as it’s most important you speak with a health professional who has access to your medical records.

I hope this information helps, but please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you have any further questions. Remember you can always contact our Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 to speak with one of our nurses directly if that’s more helpful.

    Take care and best wishes.

    Gail-Macmillan (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
